As many of you will know Gridiron Australia has won the rights to host the 2019 IFAF Men’s World Championship. This is a fantastic effort by GA and congratulations to them and their team that put the bid together.
This is the first time this event has been held in the Southern Hemisphere and it is great news for Australia. It will also provide an opportunity to raise the profile of the sport in the whole of the Australasian region and we will be looking at ways in which we can take advantage of the event being in our “back yard”.
The GA news release can be found here.
IFAF has not yet announced the format of the competition including the number of teams to compete however they have confirmed that there will not be an automatic entry for a second Oceania team.
We understand that they may consider a qualification process that will enable teams to become eligible to compete but there is nothing confirmed at this stage.
We will keep everyone updated we once we receive more information.
