Extension of entries closing date

Given the announcement of the Men's National Flag Football Team opportunity for players to register their interest in participating in the campaign we felt that it would be good to extend the closing date for entries.

This will allow players who might want to be considered for the National Flag Team to either enter a team or find a team to play in for the Tournament.

Please note the change of dates.

Dates: 30th and 31st March
Venue: Sinclair Park, Houghton Bay, Wellington
Live Draw: Friday 29th, Evening
  (Venue TBA)

Initial Campaign Information

Coach Selection and Player Registration of Interest

The information below is for the initial phase of the campaign and covers the coach selection process and the Registration of Interest for players who want to be considered for selection into a training squad.

Please note that the final approval of the NZAFF Board is required for the campaign to proceed.  The process for approval is in the National Teams Process document (here) and this document should be read by both groups.

This is so that everyone understands the process, the requirements in order to be considered and the initial requirements that lead to final approval of the campaign by the NZAFF Board.

Coach
A Position Vacant document is available (here) with an Application Template section.

The time frame will be:
  • Applications open by Friday 15th February
  • Applications close on Sunday 3rd March.
  • A decision will be made on or before 15th March.

Applicants should make sure that they have made time to be available for an interview (if required) either by skype or dial-in voice conference between the dates of the 4th to the 10th March.

Applications will be considered by a panel of four made up of two from the NZAFF Board, one senior player and a coach with recognizable, significant experience.

The Selection Panel will determine which applicants will get an invitation to an interview.

One of the first items for the Coach upon appointment, will be to attend the Wellington Flag Tournament on the 30/31st March so that they can look at players that have registered interest in being included in the training squad.

A template that can be used for the application can be found with the Position Vacancy document.  We encourage applicants to use this template in order to make it easy for the Panel to evaluate applications.  Applicants can add an additional document on the registration form if they wish.  All documents should be loaded into the application form not emailed.

Preference will be given to Coaches living in New Zealand.

The application form for Coaches can be found here.

Players
The time frame for the registration of interest will be:
  • Registrations open by Friday 15th February
  • Registrations close on Friday 22nd March.

An initial selection of a training squad will happen after the Wellington Invitation Flag Tournament and we would encourage players who are interested in becoming involved to play in that tournament so that the Coach is given the best opportunity for player evaluation.

Players who register but cannot make the Tournament will have an opportunity to trial for the squad at a later date and will be notified of that opportunity prior to the trial date.

The registration of Interest for players can be found here.

Hutt Valley Spartans win Capital Bowl

2019 Capital Bowl Champs!!!

Our season started off slow, going down in our first two games. We were down but not out.

Our third game saw us gain a wealth of experience with our starting QB making a return after missing the first two games due to a shoulder injury. We won our third game of the season to move us to 1-2 after the first half of the season.
The second half of the season saw us hit our strides and put in strong performances putting up 50+ points two weeks in a row
moving us to 3-2.

In the final game of the regular season we faced a strong wolves team that were too good for us on the day narrowly going down after not being able to convert on the final drive of the game. Finishing the regular season 3-3 missing out on the silverware which went to the wolves.

We then played in one heck of a final which saw us and the wolves go into triple overtime after the scores were tied up at the end of regulation 14-14. The first period of extra time saw no team score. In the 2nd period both teams we able to reach the endzone. This took us to the 3rd period of extra time where everything was put on the line. Our defence made an awesome redzone stand and gave our offence a chance to win the game. We were able to use the hard count to our advantage causing the wolves Dline to come offside giving us a free play from 15 yards out. A pitch right to our RB with great blocks saw us walk it in for the game winning TOUCHDOWN. and becoming back to back Wellington champs. Taking us to 4 finals wins in the last 5 seasons.

As for the Wellington Wolves and Porirua Warriors both teams had an awesome season and american football wouldn't be alive and well without both teams and support crews.

Posted with thanks to the HV Spartans.

The Wellington Invitation Flag Football Tournament has been confirmed on the dates of the 30th and 31st March on Sinclair Park

The reason for the change in dates (from the previous weekend) was to avoid the Wellington  Home Grown Festival which was on our original date and had made booking accommodation difficult.
Our apologies for the change.

We have also had a request to hold the event over two days to minimise the disruption to work.  This means that teams will be required to play three games each day in order to complete the schedule.

This year we will create the game schedule with a live draw on the Friday night (the 29th) prior to competition.
Please make sure at least one representative from each team will be able to make the event which will be an opportunity to meet the other teams and socialise.
The venue, timing and other details of the live draw will be forthcoming prior to the event.
Teams should be prepared to be starting games at 8:30 in the morning on Saturday.  With the draw being done on the Friday night there is no leeway for late arrivals on Saturday morning.  No one will want to start with a default.

Please enter your teams here.

if you have any question please contact Russell - gm@nzaff.co.nz.
