Things kicked off in Honeybadger land where the two local teams, Green & Purple were joined by American Football Canterbury, Wellington Wolves & the perennially strong Hawkes Bay Heat. Held over two days in typically beautiful Nelson weather, it was Hawkes bay who came away the victors, undefeated.
Round 2 saw teams from Turangi & Hutt Valley join in the fun in Wellington. This leg was a round robin competition where teams played each other once. As it turned out, the two best teams on the day played the last game with the Nelson Honey Badgers holding on against the fast finishing Hawkes Bay heat.
Then Covid 19 hit. Unfortunately, this meant delaying future legs, and cancelling the Turangi leg, so next up was Hawkes bay. A few different teams joined this competition, as the Hamilton Hawks travelled down to join the 2 Hawkes bay teams and Turangi. In the end Hawkes Bay B took the spoils and gave the seedings for finals weekend.
Finals Weekend was hosted once again in Wellington. Unfortunately, the second seeded Nelson could not get up there again (a big ask), so Hawkes Bay had the first round bye. The double elimination tournament saw some great games and interesting results. The Hutt Valley Spartans put on some great plays, cementing themselves as everyone's second favourite team. The two Wellington Wolves played well, but both ran out of steam as the day went on. So it was left to Turangi & Hawkes Bay to battle the final, with Heat taking out the final and becoming the inaugural Quad Series Champions - a fine reward for setting the pace all Series. |
