National Teams
As the Sport of American Football grows in New Zealand, we have an ambition to see our athletes compete on the Global stage, both through one-off Internationals and attendance at global IFAF Tournaments. There were 3 National sides formed in 2016 representing New Zealand in American Football, and our aim is to continue the growth of these teams.

Steelblack U19 Colts
The New Zealand U19 team has experienced International success in recent years, qualifying for the IFAF U19 World Cup in Ohio, US back in 2009 by upsetting the highly favoured Australian team in The Oceania qualifier. In 2016 an U19 Squad was again assembled to take on Australia in a one-off match on the Gold Coast of Australia. Read More |
Flag Football Makos
The Mako Team will be competing in the 2020 edition of the World Flag Championships and a process is underway to select the National Team. In 2016 the IFAF Flag Football World Championships was held in Miami, Florida in September 2016, and New Zealand pulled together a 15 man squad to attend this International tournament. The team played 9 games during the Tournament and was competitive in all games, and came away with a 9th place ranking which they will take into the Qualification rounds for the next tournament. The New Zealand Steelblacks
It had been 10 years since a New Zealand Mens Team had been pulled together, but in 2016 a Steelblacks Mens squad was assembled from the best players around the Country for a one-off International friendly against American Samoa. The game was held at Mountfort Park, Manurewa with the American Samoan team bringing with them several current and former US College Players. Read More |
