A word from our Chairperson,
Critical to the growth of the sport will be establishing clubs around the country, and as the governing body we want to do all we can to help get communities and clubs get up and running. Whether its kids or adults, flag or contact, social or competitive it doesn't matter, we just want more New Zea- landers to get a taste of the unique combination of physical skills and strategy American Football offers. There currently is organised American Football being played in Auckland, Hamilton, Turangi, Hawke’s Bay, Wellington, Nelson and Christchurch but we would love to see this extend even further in 2019. |
All good things start small, the key is just to get started. As an example our most recent Club the Hawke’s Bay Heat started as only a casual Sunday scrimmage amongst a few friends a couple of years ago but this same club more recently won our National Invitational Flag Tournament and has several players trialing for the New Zealand team to travel to the World Cup in Korea in 2020.
The New Zealand American Football Federation (NZAFF) is here to support the growth of our sport and this document covers aspects of setting up and running a successful club. But please check out our website for a range of other re- sources, and also get in touch if we can be of any help American Football is an incredible sport that has been played by a small group in New Zealander’s for over 40 years, and for those of us involved we know that the sport will appeal to many more Kiwis both young and old if they give it a try.
