End of Season Flag Tournaments

Updated: Mar 30, 2022

Although the Flag nationals were called off due to red level restrictions there were several smaller Flag tournaments held around the country.

After the AFA end of season premiers Flag games and the Hamilton invitational Flag tournament on the 26th February there was another Flag tournament hosted by Tauranga on the 5th March.

The Hamilton Flag Tournament was won by the Turangi Titans and the Tauranga Flag Tournament was won by the Tauranga Tridents Juniors.

On the 19th March Hamilton again hosted a tournament – the NZAFF Women’s Friendly.

There were 8 teams competing on a fine sunny day with the Metro Lionesses Black winning the event in a close battle with the South Auckland Raiders Purple.

A great day of competition with lots of enthusiasm to grow the event next year.

The last event of the season was the Wellington end of season Flag tournament held last weekend - the 26th.

The weather was fantastic (forecasts are completely unreliable), the games were excellent, and everyone had a great time.

It was a great competition with many teams winning against different opponents throughout the day. The Wolves lost to the Hutt Valley Spartans, but beat the HB Heat in the last game of the round robin to secure a place in the final.

HB came back from the loss to defeat the Wellington Wolves and take out the trophy defending their title (and the Wellington Shield) for one more year.
