We are very pleased to make two announcements for the Mako Women’s Flag Football team:
The Head Coach will be Ethan Clark from the Hamilton Hawks.
Ethan has wide experience in coaching and is the coach of the Taimana Hawks Women’s Flag team. The assistant coaches and the team manager appointments will be announced shortly.
The Team Leader is Shernice Henry of the Papatoetoe Wildcats.
The team leader is a new role. Shernice will be the players representative in the team management group and will report direct to the NZAFF Board. The role has been initiated to ensure that the players voice is properly heard by the coaching staff.
The Women’s Mako campaign is the first time a national Women’s Flag team will be selected to compete in upcoming internationals. The campaign is aimed at competing at the IFAF Flag Football World Championships to be held in Finland in 2024.
Trials and selections will be happening in September. Players who registered their interest in the Mako campaign should expect formal communications about this in mid-August.
